LAWRENCE D. BLUM, M.D.
OFFICE:
2400 Chestnut Street
Suite 2810
Philadelphia, PA 19103
(215) 751-0102
THERAPIES EMPLOYED:
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychoanalysis
Couples Therapy
Medication
Usual patient age range: 18-70
PRACTICE STATEMENT:
Most people who consult me have taken care of the aspects of their struggles that they are consciously aware of. Typically what they most need help with is figuring out the parts of their problems they are not aware of, often ways in which the past is interfering in the present. To help people understand what they are not aware of, and to help them get unwanted past influences out of the present, psychoanalytic knowledge is extremely useful. In addition to having an extensive education, it is essential that a therapist be compassionate and have a thorough understanding of people. Confidentiality and respect for personal experience, autonomy, and potential for change and growth are crucial as well.
I am able to provide comprehensive consultations, and offer the broadest range of treatments from brief interventions to psychoanalysis. I try to explain to patients the advantages and disadvantages of all pertinent treatment options.
While I have had the honor of treating many doctors, mental health professionals, and their families, I treat people from all walks of life for a wide variety of problems including anxiety, depression, sexual disorders, relationship problems, etc.
I am not on any insurance company panels but my services will be eligible for out-of-network benefits when these are available. When it is necessary, however, I am sometimes able to see a patient at a reduced fee, or help find additional options.
